How well do you know Orient Watch’s history? Here are five things that you may know about the brand:
- While 1951 is considered the year that Orient Watch was established, its history traces back to 1901, originating from the Yoshida Watch Shop in Ueno, Tokyo. A factory was soon built, which manufactured gold watch cases, table clocks and gauges. By 1934, wristwatches were being produced.
- The first watch offered from the brand was actually the first Orient Star timepiece in existence. It featured two hands and a small seconds subdial (shown above).
- In 1967, Orient Watch developed the thinnest mechanical movement of the time, measuring in at only 3.9mm.
- Its most famous movement, the 469 caliber, has been in production for more than 40 years and over 100 million movements have been produced since!
- Orient Watch is one of the few brands to develop its own power reserve complication. It’s also one of the few brands to offer a high variety of watches that feature this complication in its collection, such as the Vintage.
