As the Crown Turns: Another look at the Classic Monarch

In a sea full of automatic Orient watches, the Monarch has stood alone. Why? Because it’s not an automatic watch. It’s not a quartz-powered watch, either. The Monarch is the sole manual-wind only piece in our collection, and we’re excited to announce that it’s back. Let’s take another look at this vintage inspired hand-cranker.

Put simply, the design of this watch pays homage to times past. Exquisite detailing here and there masterfully blends 18th century inspiration with an art deco vibe. From the gloss finish on its classic hands, to the outer track markers and even the retro “mechanical” font, it’s the small things that really pull together the vintage look. A nifty power reserve indicator at the top lets you know when it’s time to stop winding.

The 40mm case may seem a bit big for a “classic” watch, but it was necessary to modernize a timepiece that could have easily lived 50 years ago. With a mechanical movement, you’d expect the watch to be a bit thinner than 13mm, however the semi-domed crystal and sandwich-style case provide the watch with antique character. Additionally, it is one of few pieces that feature an 18mm lug width. This was deliberate in paying homage to the thin straps found on older classic pieces. The decorated caliber 48C40 movement is visible through a display back, which features an ornate clam shell detailing.

The Monarch is back in stock; however it is available in a limited capacity.
