For the Beginners

We realize that not everyone who reads our blog is a pro watch enthusiast, so we decided to take a step back and cover some general knowledge for you beginners who would like to learn more and better understand the jargon we use on a daily basis.

We’ll start with the basic anatomy of the watch before getting in too deep.

We have labeled many of the watch components on the picture below.  Some of them are self-explanatory, but we've provided definitions of the others.

The crown is a knurled knob for winding the watch; digital watches do not have these. It was originally created for winding but sometimes is just used to adjust the time and date.

The bezel is the ring that surrounds the watch face.  Some bezels bidirectional, which is used for measuring speed, distance, or time elapsed.

We will be doing more installments of these, so be sure to stay tuned!  Don't forget to check out our selection of watches at orientwatchusa.com.
