symphony 1509

The Symphony collection, especially the FER27003W0 has been successful in bridging together generations. On one hand it is a classic directly from the mid century, on the other hand it is a watch produced for a new generation of wearers. Using elements desired by both generations, Orient has successfully created a timepiece that respects the past while still looks forward to the future.

Using rose gold tone stainless steel case, this Symphony is given a traditional feeling, as if being pulled from the middle of last century. Keeping in line with these aesthetics, the hands and indices have no lume applied to them and are set against a sunburst white dial. Though these may be the attributes of the watch which first grab attention; the details are what brings this Symphony to modern day.

Measuring at 41mm in diameter, the Symphony’s case has a modern classic watch size. Fifty years ago a 41mm case would be reserved only for sport or dive watches, but not today. 41mm has become a modern classic watch norm. Along with the increased case size comes an increased water resistance. The case has a 50m depth rating (higher than the common 30m) which is much higher than what period watches were capable of.

Housed inside the case is the robust ORIENT in house caliber 48743 automatic movement, which features the date complication at the 3 o’clock position. Protecting the dial is a flat crystal, which another modern touch. And lastly keeping with the updated sizes, a 22mm brown leather band has been mounted to finished off this modern classic watch. By utilizing a classic inspired design with contemporary aesthetic, this version of the Symphony not only identifies with the baby boomers, but also with the young millennials.
