Return of a Classic: The Orient Class with Sapphire Crystal GW0100AW and GW01009B

FGW0100AW0 Class.Still009

If you're looking for a spring watch, the Orient Class collection would be a great place to look. It is Orient's take on the minimalist watch and is a fantastically priced piece with solid specs.

The Class was designed to be a traditional classic watch. Today we have two sides of the same coin; one more formal (FGW01009B0), and one more casual (FGW0100AW0), but still classic nonetheless. With a classic watch, less is more. Starting off, the quartz caliber JP600 movement is powering these watches. The movement utilizes two hands to display the time. Without the seconds hand, the dial feels stationary and not until looking back have you noticed time has passed. Its important to note that a majority of Orient watches are three handed. The thin hands are placed on the inner dial, which is sunken in which adds depth to the dial and allows the hands to pass at the same level of the indices. At the 6 o’clock position is the petite date aperture, keeping the dial perfect symmetrical. The main draw to this classic sized watch is the sapphire crystal which will keep the watch looking neat and classy.

Housing the dial is a 38mm stainless steel case which is only 7.25mm thick. Its a very slender, lightweight watch that's the type you'll have on but quickly forget about. The slim, 20mm lugs add an extra bit of comfort to the watch. . The Class FGW01009B uses a black dial and black leather band giving the watch a much more formal, reserved appearance, whereas the FGW0100AW version is on a white dial with a dark brown leather band. The use of white and brown portray a casual and casual look to this dress watch.

Both watches retail for $205.
