The Champion – Worth of the fanfare

One of the newest models for 2013 from Orient is the ER2C line, appropriately dubbed the “Champion” series. A simple three-hand and date watch, it possesses incredible style and glamour for a fraction of the price.

The dial of the Champion resembles a poker chip – the outer dial features a similar guilloche-style lined pattern. The bar indexes are of stainless steel and reflect light beautifully. This coupled with its sunburst dial give the Champion a slight but adequate shimmer. Instead of a having a white window for the date, (which can be found at the three o’clock), Orient laced the piece up with a unique silver window which complements the bar indexes nicely. The case is brushed stainless steel at the top and polished on the sides and on the back. The case back is an exhibition case back which features an exceptional bronze crystal tint. The Champion is powered by Orient’s 48743 caliber that is robust and reliable.

The Champion measures at 42mm across and 48.5mm lug to lug which is a great size for pretty much every wrist. The watch comes on a nice, lightweight stainless steel band that is a masterful mix of polished and brushed metal or in the case of the 8B model, a comfortable black leather strap. This is a superb piece for someone looking for a simple, no frills watch that does what it’s supposed to. And at this price (about $150 after using code fall2012), the Champion is far from a gamble – it’s by far one of the most affordable mechanical watches on the market.
