The Need For Speed: Speedtech Auto STI SDA05002B0 and SDA05001B0

speedtech 1626

Orient continues its partnership with Subaru Tecnica International Inc. (STI) with its creation of the Speedtech Series. The Speedtech Automatics embody the same characteristics and personality of the Subaru BRZ GT300, in fluidity, dynamic and vibrance.

Matching the mechanical engine in the BRZ, Orient placed their in house caliber 40R56 movement, which features automatic winding, hand winding and hacking inside the Speedtech Auto. Featuring the power reserve complication at the 11 o’clock position, the wearer is able to clearly see how much energy is left in the main spring, much like a gas gauge and determine the best way to supply the watch with power, through automatic winding or hand winding.

From the dial, the 46R56 movement is visible through the semi skeleton dial, which has been cut in such a way to mimic the air outlets surrounding the GT300’s engine. The dial is comprised of carbon fiber, another fitting homage to the motorsports world. And like the BRZ’s logo plate, the Speedtech logo has been created to be matching. Surrounding the dial is the inner rotating bezel designed for measuring elapsed time and is controlled by the crown at the 4 o’clock position. Located at the 2 o’clock position is the crown which controls the time setting of the watch, as well as hand winding of the watch.

Covering the dial is a tough sapphire crystal with AR coating. Housing the dial is a study 100m 45mm case which has been crafted from stainless steel and aluminium. The aluminium portion of the case is the blue ring which hugs the outer bezel in Subaru’s signature blue. Adding a touch of design flair, and to tie the Speedtech Auto closer to the BRZ, a carbon fiber piece has been added to the joint section of the bracelet designed to be in the image of the GT300’s hexagonal front grill, which draws the eye from the case to the stainless steel bracelet. The stainless steel bracelet flows into the case with its solid construction and solid end links. In addition to the stainless steel case, the Speedtech Auto is also available mounted to a rubber strap, which the exterior has been modeled after the shape of the GT300’s air outlets and the interior of the strap features a honeycomb texture for comfort.
