Every time Orient Watch and Subaru’s STI come together, the best of both worlds are truly projected in the form of a watch. With the new Orient x STI SpeedTech collection, the design detail has been elevated in comparison to their last collaborative efforts. The designers at Orient Watch modeled the SpeedTech watches in the image of the Subaru BRZ GT300, which Orient sponsors at the Super GT Race. The result is a multifaceted watch filled with great style and a grand mixture of materials. Today we unveil the SpeedTech Chronograph STI which comes in blue (STZ00001D0) and black (STZ00001B0).
Like the SpeedTech Automatic STI, the SpeedTech Chronograph STI’s design is inspired by the BRZ GT300. The dial layout has deliberately been spread to resemble the speedometer within the car. The black dial version (STZ00001B) features an aggressive black and orange color way, while the blue dial version (STZ00001D) sports a classic blue and red pattern. The crowning feature of the watch is undoubtedly the chronograph. This chronograph will measure time with accuracy at 1/100 of a second. This effect is emphasized by the twelve o’clock chronograph register which spins at a mesmerizing pace. What’s more is that the chronograph will continue to measure this time accurately for up to 40 minutes! The dial also comes complete with a tachymeter in the chapter ring and a date window at the four o’clock position. There are concentric graining accents throughout the dial and it should be noted that the lume on the hour markers perform quite well.
The extremities of the watch are very similar to those found on the SpeedTech Automatic. The bezel has received the IP black treatment, and the signature metallic blue aluminum ring (reminiscent of the color of the car) can be found tucked beneath it. The chronograph pushers as well as crown have been blacked out as well. The bracelet features carbon fiber detailing on both ends which is a nod to the grill of the BRZ. The case back is embellished with a special SpeedTech engraving.
All of these special features and styling however have not compromised the watches build quality. The 46mm wide case is resistant to 100m and has a screwed down crown. The case is well built and solid, even if the case thickness is thinner due to the quartz movement. The crystal used is sapphire which also has been glazed with anti-reflective coating.
The SpeedTech Chronograph retails at $650.
