We're Talking With Kyle Robinson!

What did you think you'd be doing for work when you were a kid?

I thought I’d either be a professional soccer player or a DJ/producer.

What drew you to music?

I’ve always been able to let music help me escape. Whether it’s at a live performance or listening to songs in my headphones, being able to simply close my eyes and feel the music is incredible.

How is time important for a DJ?

Timing is everything. First of all, you’ve got to know when and how long your set time is. Then you have to figure out how the songs you want to play, will fit into that time period. I prepare my sets by making sure that all my songs are timed perfected to their respective BPM (Beats Per Minute) in Ableton. Every song can be broken down into sections. Being able to recognize when one part ends and the other begin is crucial for smooth transitions.

When you set forth to a gig, what is the most important thing about your DJ set?

The most important thing to me is that I’ve practiced the difficult transitions.

What is the best music festival to attend?

In my opinion, Coachella is the best music festival to attend because they do such a great job at booking a wide variety of new and upcoming artists. And it’s a nice way to kick off Festival Season.

If you could go back in time, where would you go and what would you do?

The summer of ’69. Woodstock. Need I say more?

What's your favorite watch style and why?

The Eminence. I like that it’s simple, yet still has a window to the soul.

What's the most beautiful place you've visited?

I really loved visiting St. John in the Virgin Islands. Not only is it a gorgeous island, the community is super laid-back and the locals are very welcoming.

What would people be surprised to know about you?

A lot of people still don’t know that I’ve been producing music with my brother, Tyler. We’ve been at it for a while, but have yet to release any of our original work. I think people will be pleasantly surprised when they hear our stuff.

Kyle Robinson works at Goldenvoice. He assists in the operations for two of Los Angeles' most famous venues - El Rey Theatre and The Roxy. He's also one-half of Ghost Protocol. You can follow him on instagram: knrobinson; And follow Ghost Protocol on Soundcloud and Facebook.
